So guys, what do you like?
My 5 favourites is:
American pie
Not another teen movie
Resident evil
Percy Jackson the Lightning thief (not so good but still i liked it more than some others =P)
X-Men Wolverine
This is kinda bad time to think which ones is my favourites since I haven't slept for 30 hours or smth :O
*shudder*
Even considering you are 12 this is horrendous, appalling and saddening. I should not have read this thread. What the fuck is wrong with today's youth ?

you wish! you were born on July 30, 1996 means you are 13 and i have to agree with feday, the movies you chose are kinda..................brainless imo. choose some with a good story and actors.
*shudder*

I would have to agree
Hmmm I allways find these hard to awnser.. .but... (what comes into my mind)
1. 12 Angry men
2. The Shawshank Redemption
3. Schindler's List
4. Leon
5. Into the wild (Vedder's music made this movie complete for me)
I guess mine are:
1. Requiem for a dream
2. God father (only 1st part)
3. What dreams may come
4. A walk to remember
5. Hotel Rwanda
well why not? wtf, this is kinda like same shit as "your top10 games" or w/e it was... delete the thread then... go on. :banghead:

Yes yes, but come one, "top 5 movies ever" and "Resident Evil" can never occur in the same sentence. Wtf kind of reaction did you expect ?!
Anyway :
1] Blade Runner
2] Apocalypse Now
3] The Godfather 1/2 chronological edit
4] Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
5] Fargo
In fact take some of those directors and then some and watch everything they've made and you have a decent basis. Francis Ford Coppola, Ridley Scott, the Coen Brothers, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorcese, Spielberg etc.
Of course, since you are 14 some of those might bore your attention-span deprived mind so you might want to check :
1] Aliens
2] Die Hard
3] Big Trouble in Little China
4] Raiders of the Lost Ark
5] Bloodsport
Each one of those is so crazy awesome when you are 14, you won't know what hit you. They'll kick Wolverine to a bloody pulp and defecate on the sorry remains.
Really, fucking American Pie - there's not much wrong with it, it's a decent comedy. But putting it on a "Best Movie Ever" list will make Dennis Hopper raise from the grave to hunt you down and skullfuck you. And you don't want to mess with a zombie Dennis fucking Hopper. Fuck.
Where the fuck is Matrix, the first one, in all those lists?? or Shining!!!!
I was thinking about a list of mine, but is too hard .... gotta think moar about it.
the topic is top 5 movies, I can't say that what I wrote are actualy my top 5 favorite movies, they are the top5 that came into my mind at that moment so if you want a more comprehensive list, just give me 1 week and around 10-15 MB on this forum and I will make you a list only with movies worth mentioning :D
People should see 12 Angry men. ;)

The problem with these lists is that you always get a fair amount of the same movies. Might as well open up imdb's top250 list. It's actually more interesting to list some of your favorite movies that you think not many people will have seen.
I mean there's many movies I would add to my top5 out of hope more people would check them out, but I can't really say that they are superior to The Godfather, because a movie like that is in a class of it's own.
And yes Myca, twelve angry men is awesome.

dotfucker :) w/e
A top 5 is silly ... there are too many good movies. Here a few (and only a few!) of the many movies that left and impression after watching
1. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
2. Simon (dutch movie)
3. The shining
4. Unthinkeble (one of the last movies I have seen and it left an impression)
5. Schindlers list
6. Band of brothers (yer not a movie, but a good watch anyway.... and lets not start about series here cuz then i can fill several more pages)
7. The green mile
8. The curious case of Benjamin Button
9. Wall-e
10.... nah i'll stop now or I will continue writing until the holland match starts this afternoon ....
What's gooed depends a bit on genre and time period aswell (and your own age at that time) .... there are so many more movies worth watching... check only the stuff thats older then some members of this guild ..... robocop, starwars, one flew over the cuckoo's nest, terminator 2, jaws, once upon a time in the west, and you can go on and on and on .....and .....on.
It would be worthwile (as feday suggested) to post stuff that made an impression but (you think) may not have been seen by the big crowd.
ps
Im not for judging of course, everybody can like what they want of course. But..... making a top 5 out of the 20 or so movies you have seen in total???? :p

...
That's true, in this case let's list some of the movies others might have not watched, I'm rly interested, maybe there are other good movies I've never even heard about and I want to watch them.

3. Munich
4. Agora
5. August rush
6. Sweeney Todd
7. Equilibrium

10. Chocolat
11. Being John Malkovich
12. The thin red line
13. Boy A
14. Fallen
15. London
16. K-PAX
17. Great Expectations (1998)
18. It's all gone Pete Tong
19. Arizona dream
20. XXY
21. Rose red
22. Ben X
Ofc there are more, and yes, don't ask, I used IMDB to remember the names of some, I'm waiting from you now. :D

Just a suggestion for you, go to www.imdb.com (http://www.imdb.com) , go to TOP250 and select the TOP10 movies with more than 8.5 rating, and then you might change your oppinion.

Hehe, I haven't seen even 1 of those movies :P
The Thing!!!!! OMG IMBA MOVIE :D
Carpenter's work before he went crazy with that crap movie, Ghosts of Mars a real shit.
And where's BAD TASTE!!!! OMG!!!
Is a movie of a 26 yo director (his age at that time) who won an Oscar Award with the Lord of the Rings, a dude called Peter Jackson!

I prefer Braindead, actually :D The Priest who "kicks ass for the lord", the romantic piece of entrails, the custard eating scene, etc. etc.
And if Eagleseye would need an introduction to the awesomeness of John Carpenter I would suggest the following order, in increasing magnitudes of baddass manliness :
1] Big Trouble in Little China
2] Escape from New York
3] The Thing
Feday do you know that Big Trouble in Little China was a flop at the box office for Carpenter?? I thought was a movie of great success but seems is not like that. How come??
Hmm i have no top5 movies.
I like Independence day tho! And i love movies like Blood In Blood Out. American Gangster etc etc.
i really like Cloverfield because of the camera point of view

I watch a lot of films and to put into my top 5 would need a great deal of thought.. (but my brain is jelly atm)
I would have to agree with pizza and ask why no-one has "the Matrix Trilogy" I think that would have to be 1 of my all time tops.
As Chorizo meationed "The green Mile" is a fantastic film. although tI personnally think the book is better.
No-one has meationed the not so well know film "the boondock saints".
Currently in my download folder I have
Alice in wonderland
Avatar
Gamer - Good action , intresting theme, with the dude from Law Abiding citizen, which is another great movie.
Green zone
Harry Brown
High Plains Invaders - this was a random download that I randomly clicked on as I was too stoned to check IMDB.. I have done you and the nation a favour by watching this on your behalf.. Its shit, shit story, shit special effects and shit acting.. DO NOT WATCH IT !!!

More than five, in random order, but still:
Blade Runner (wrote my BA on it, one of not so many movies I can watch over and over again, Ridley at his peak)
Memento
Dune (Lynch's version, the final duel scene and music is HOLY FREKIN SHIT AWESOME)
The Return of the Living Dead - grotesque at its finest
Kill Bill - especially vol. 1, second not so much but still, a piece of good work
Snatch - awesome movie by Guy Ritchie, two scenes will stay forever in my mind - burning of the pikies' camp to Massive Attack's Angel (freaking moving) and hold-up at the bookie's (peed my pants)
Vanishing Point
American Beauty
The Pi - movie distinguished by its kickass soundtrack, definitely worth seeing
Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa
even though the trailer is quite a teaser this is one of The movies i'm looking forward to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EccFMGCGySo
The Pi - movie distinguished by its kickass soundtrack, definitely worth seeing
You mean Pi by Darren Aranovski? If so, uber movie+music yer.

All cool movies !
So you are something of a Blade Runner expert ? I've must have watched that movie about 50 times - best cinematography ever, the whole thing is an triumph of setdesign and lighting. Do you prefer the studio cut or the director's ?
Lynch's Dune has also incredible style, allthough the story is an incomprehensible mess if you didn't read the books. Vanishing Point has a total 70's cool vibe, Primal Scream did sort of a concept album to it in the 90's. Kurosawa, another director worth buying a collection box from - The Usual Suspects owes a lot to Rashomon. Actually one of the nice things of checking out classics like Yojimbo, Ran, 7 Samurai, etc is recoginizing all those times modern directors pay homage to it with certain shots, sets etc. Brian de Palma practically made his carreer out of it :D
Oh, and finally, speaking of Arranovski: possibly the craziest project coming up is his remake of Verhoeven's Robocop. And with crazy I mean awesone.
fuck, Robocop. Another movie any 14 year old should watch on repeat instead of all these modern sanitized lame action movies.

By the gods .... the movies we watched in the 80's (yer no computer games back then).... too many to name. Lot's of new technologies used in filming (and not all of that computerized crap of these days) but so many that you should have seen (not all of them good of course, but a must see for a youth in those times i think)
to name a few (that weren't named yet):
Platoon
Full metal jacket
ghostbusters
rainman
Highlander
Die Hard
Lethal weapon
Mad Max
Flash Gordon
Wargames
Beverly hills cop
Conan the barbarian
48 hours
Predator
Top Gun
Karate Kid
and the list goes on and on..... :)
90's had some awsome movies aswell
True, Dune is awesome only for Frank Herbert's readers.
I watched it last Saturday, when i came back home at 2 am Dune marathon was starting on tv :D.
GOGOGO MUAD'DIB!!!!!

Yes sir, that's the one
@Feday
I'm not much of an expert, just wrote a comparison of the vision of humanity as presented in the movie and in 'Do Androids Dream...'. And yes, it's the best cinematography ever, rarely can we see such combination of lighting, setting and music. And the voiceover that drove some critics nuts, I love it. I'm always in favor of the director's cut since it's supposed to reflect his vision of the movie, unabriged and not tainted by the producers' desires to make as much cash out of it as possible.
I had no idea about Primal Scream's concept album, I'm getting it now, thanks for the info! As far as Kurosawa is concerned, I got drawn to his movies since I wanted to check what he did to Shakespeare's dramas and all I can say is that they are definitely worth seeing. Putting Shakespeare into a feudal Japan setting was an excellent idea. I was supposed to watch Ran and Throne of Blood but ended up seeing Rashomon, The Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo and several others titles of which slipped my mind. And yeah, funny how a single Japanese guy influenced so many European and American directors. I believe even Lucas himself said that The Hidden Fortress was an inspiration for his Star Wars.
EDIT:
Oh yeah, Zombieland is a must if you're a fan of Murrays. <SPOILER ON> Sadly, his appearance is rather abruptly ended by a certain individual. <SPOILER OFF>

Yer lol that movies owns. Before he did the LOTR movies Peter was one of my favorite directors, also due to that scene in Braindead where this guy goes with his lawnmoarer thought this bunch of partying zombies. (OKOK it's easy to make a good movie if you have zombies involved) THAT is art, of cosmetic proportions. If we ever meet aliens IRL and gonne show of our major milestones of what humanity did, we should show that scene.
