I stumbled upon it when I logged in to the armory. I wanted to see calendar and accept invitations. I did not accept. I wonder what I clicked on yesterday....
And I know they can monitor everything... you should beware of that anyhow. BUT.. by this you give them permission to do it...

Dear naive noobs, every gamemaker logs almost everything, expecially chatting. Blizzard is just being nice here they do it in the open and let you have the illusion you are somewhat in control. So remember this next time youre trying to hit on this 12 year old boy.

Duh... but by signing this you cant sue them afterwards. :P

Harrow
01-07-2010, 12:45
Why would you sue them.. For ensuring people dont use chat to discuss illegal matters. We use their software for our entertainment, surly they have a right to know what is said and done over their software. If you want to disscuss private or illegal matters then dont use their software.

Myca
01-07-2010, 12:47
Well yes Merry. But by accepting this you cant sue them for invading privacy etc... and making this a bit more legal material for court.

Harrow
01-07-2010, 13:03
lol and why would you sue them for invading your privacy?
How else would you suggest blizz to ensure no-one was using their software to do illegal activities?

BTW, I am not knocking your veiws, I understand what you are saying.. but surly if you were concerned about you private convo's remaining private then surly it would be easier to pick my the phone or right a letter/email. There are millions of people playing this game and it opens the possiblity for people to discuss illegal activities using the wow software to avoid being dectected by other organisations. Being a person knowing I dont talk about illegal shit and I dont spend my time abusing people, it makes me feel more secure, knowing that they monitor for other people doing it, in the hope of stopping it and making things safer for users.

Well Merry, i guess you use also a mobile phone and you can use it for talking about Bin Laden's location, blowing up the central station or the dome in Milan, the tube in Moscow or selling 200 tons of cocaine, but neither Nokia/Samsung etc. nor any mobile telephone service provider can listen to your calls or read your texts..... IS CALLED PRIVACY!!!

Do you remember when the americans were using (were?? maybe they still do) Echelon?? A system able to read ppl's e-mails worldwide and more in general every public and private comunication??? Well when USA partners found this shit out they were quite pissed off.

It doesn't matter if you're using a software or an hardware or anything else .. privacy is a right, whatever you're using to comunicate....

The Privacy Law is quite clear about this....if you listen to my convensations you're spying me you pervert!

Only the Government is allowed to do that for specific purposes, but the Government can do wtf it wants :P.

Ugh.... really... why is there in any of these conversations someone with the 'I do not have anything to hide' remark.

I do not have it as well. But that does not mean I should have to give up my privacy because I do not! I do not have anything to hide, so... everyone should read my email. WTF.... A plain NO!

Like with so many things, it's interesting when you think what things you (in general, not you personally) are ignoring to ease the mind.

Its not ignorance its just dont giving a shit about who sees my chats of a pc game.. especially not when it helps to get terror out of this world. maybe you have no idea but platforms like onlinegaming are very common use for terrorists..

so gogogo sew them, lett us sew you if we get a new 9/11 planned in an onlinegame..

Its good to have principles and its good to have some idealists but be careful not to turn in to a zealot ;).

You keep on misunderstanding this: even if i talk about enchants and gems or i just spam the chat with " lalalallalalalaallalla" is my own fucking business and privacy.

And only becouz you and Noe talk only about game stuff, maybe someone else whisper to an IRL friend playing in the same server (like i sometimes do) about personal problems or what i am gonna do that night.

IS CALLED FUCKING PRIVACY and this is against every law in Europe i know :D.

Myca

Well... some people want to talk fear into others.. tell them about terrorism and terrify them to make sure they want to give up privacy for a fake feeling of safety... It happens alot in America...

To quote Benjamin Franklin:

“Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”

eerrrr what's the point? if you just have normal chats you won't even notice them so i don't see any problems since i'm not planning to go suicide BOOM into a building or try to date little kids. i don't give a shit about blizz looking at my chat since there is nothing special about it wich can bring me into problems with blizzard so stop crying about your privacy since if you don't do any drastic like i'm planting a bomb you won't notice anything

Feday

It's a discussion about boundaries.

Would you go to a restaurant where ever table has a couple mics hanging overhead so the conversations can be monitored ? Just an innocent social gathering of friends after all, you probably aren't going to talk terrorism or seducing hot 16yearolds, though you may joke about it. But hey, the food is good, so who cares.

Monitoring every chat you have in game shifts the boundary a bit in favour of Big Brother type absence of privacy.

I find most of this hypocracy at the highest levels. We shout and boo when we think we are on the wrong side of the draw.

As long as their actions is clearly stated in the terms of agreement, then what is the problem? That most people don't read them is not an issue for blizzard. If you don't like it, or are principally against it, then go and make a stand. Stop playing the game and do something else. You have a consious choice.

How many of the people that talk about our rights and privacy violate rules themselfs? How many of you downloads illigal movies or music or games? How many of you waste your boss's time by checking the internet occasionally during a work day? Etc! I doubt many people come out clean tbh.

You can discuss if you like what blizz does or not, even have an option to do something about it (stop playing their game) but don't be selective where "rights" are concerned plz.
